One of the best ways to protect your carpet from permanently residing stain is by simply removing it right after it appears. Yet, any improper removal of stains can worsen them.

Here are the best tips of properly removing a carpet stain.

Clean any mess up

Move directly as the stain attacks your carpet. Bring a towel, and blot as much of the stain as possible. In order for you to get the best results, press firmly by using your body weight, so that you soak up as much as you can.

It’s worth saying that rubbing your carpet stain can push it deeper into the carpet. That’s why experts recommend blotting the stain up rather than rubbing it.

Know what you’re dealing with

As soon as you’re done blotting the stain up, wait for a moment, and know what you’re dealing with.

The majority of carpets are water-based such as soft drinks, juice, etc. next on the list are chocolate and red wine which are considered more difficult stains.

You can also encounter even more difficult stains such as oily liquids.

Find the most suitable carpet cleaner

Depending on the type of stain you are encountering, you can choose the right cleaner for your carpet.

In case you’re dealing with a simple, water-based stain, grab a detergent and mix it with cold water. Never use hot water; it will set the stain.

If the stain is more difficult, then grab 1 spoon of ammonia and mix it with 1 cup of water.

In case the stain is red wine, you need to grab some salt and directly pull the color out of the carpet, and then use the ammonia solution.

If the stain is oily, bring an iron, set it on low heat, and use some paper towels. The heat will participate in pulling the stain and pushing it into the towels.

Note: before using any cleaning mixtures, conduct a test of those mixtures in an inconspicuous spot on the carpet, so that you make sure it does not change its color.

Blot the stain

Blot the stain while using a cleansing solution. Blotting the stain will help pull it out of the carpet, while rubbing it will force the stain into the carpet and finally onto the floor.

Note: make sure you start working from the outside of the stain and then inside, so that it does not spread on your carpet.

Place your final touch

As soon as you’re done cleaning the stain, let it dry. Get back to it the next day and assess whether it has disappeared or not yet. If it’s not totally clean yet, repeat the aforementioned steps.

In some rare cases, you may need to consider a carpet cleaning professional. Don’t hesitate to contact one before the issue deteriorates.
